“I think that’s baking powder.”
“Sifter?”
“Can’t we just ask Kreacher to do this?” Sirius’s voice rebelled from the pile of parchment and books. “I’ll just give him the exploding powder. Maybe I can even ask him to through some of his spells.”
“Now, Sirius - ”
“He’ll make – he won’t even make a mess if you let him do - ”
“Wasn’t this your idea, Riu?”
“Don’t Reggie!”
A racket loud enough to undo the Protection Spells outside the Manor shook the kitchen.”
“I didn’t mean to -” Reggie was covered in confectioner’s sugar.
“Oh, for Merlin’s sake!”

“Is there a Dark Lord in the House?” Professor Keidara Wildfire’s voice stilled the bustling crowd in the kitchen. “Well, well, well. I hope you’re holding up… complying to the rules of School during the summer.” The Professor smiled at her students.
“So far, Professor.” Gyn smiled cheekily behind the box of Chocolate Frogs.
“You’ll make it. Two more weeks and you’ll be whipping your wands out and waving them around again.” Professor Wildfire was helping Kreacher clean the kitchen with hers.
Regulus, Sirius and Genevieve were working on the eggs and sugar for their third attempt of a Sachertorte. “Not too much sugar this time.” Their first cake’s center sank. The second one was of unspeakable error.

“Didn’t you guys consider ordering?” Professor Wildfire teased.
“Are you trying to insult me?”
“I don’t even have to try.”
“Why are we doing this again?”
“To test our discipline and ability to resist temptation?”
“Fair enough.”
Gyn licked icing off her thumb. “Besides, she’s most likely to appreciate the gesture. Great way to bond with your mum, Riu. If she’d get off the Floo…”

“Waste, you mean.” Sirius crossed his arms, leaned against the counter and started to jiggle his foot.
“Calm down, Sirius, it’s barely two.”
“But JK said they’ll be here by half past five.”
“If we’re not done by three, we’ll order.”
“Shit!” The milk seemed to have come to life.
“Now can we order?”
“NO!”

They gave up on making Sachertorte and after the fourth attempt of a sponge cake, things finally seem to go up. At least, they thought so.
“It says scant.” Professor Wildfire reread the book.
“But it’s vanilla essence!” Sirius argued.
“Just dump it, Sirius.” Gyn pushed the bottle.
“How come it’s not white.”
“Just dump it!”

“Where are the eggs?”
“I thought you were going to take care of them!”
“You told me not to touch them!”
“You’re supposed to make yourself useful, you-”

“Children!” Professor Ebony pushed the door open a swarm of streamers flying behind her. “You’re almost done?”
“Erm. Half way.” Gyn whipped around to look at the clock.
“That’s not funny, Gyn.” Sirius was getting impatient.
“How’s the east garden?” Professor Wildfire was quite curious.
“Half way done.” Professor Ebony winked at the lot.

“That’s not funny!” Sirius shot out of the kitchen to check on the grounds.

“Right.” Gyn looked at her reflection unblinkingly. “Well, you’re late already.” The mirror reacted haughtily. “Right.” She huffed back and whipped around in time. Kei-sama just walked in the receiving hall. “Ready!”

“Hai!”

“Just in time, then.” Professor Wildfire led the way to the east patio. “They’re just landing.”
A flying carpet brought down Liam Bevin unto the grounds with his blindfolded daughter. “Finished already?”

Sirius was nervously pacing back and forth. When he spotted JK, he immediately pulled her to the cake’s table. “Whaddya think?”
“Happy… L? As in Loser? Or Lupin? Or Lynch?” JK seemed to have more up her sleeve but Lae was already being greeted.
“I ran out of space and icing.” Sirius shrugged sheepishly. Nightfall was becoming quite helpful as it helped conceal the flush that flared upon Sirius’s face.

“Mm. I hope it tastes better than it looks.” JK lifted it and handed the cake to Sirius. “Don’t worry,” the Marauder smiled down at JK. “I have a few trick up my sleeve.”

“We’re not allowed to use our wands, Sirius.” JK hissed at him as they approached the partying throng.
“I know, I know. But we’re not restricted from using our creativity, now, are we?” Sirius winked at JK and didn’t fail to trip over the mound of marble pathway. The cake ended up on Lae.

“The pink icing looks quite nice on your hair.” Somebody passed Lae some napkins.
“S’not so bad. Actually snot’s better than this.” Lae laughed and hurled a huge, irregular wedge across the lawn and hit somebody by the fountain. “Oi!” James’s glasses were covered with icing.
“Hug me!” Lae jumped on Rhine and Gyn.
Even the adults were on it. Ebony and Wildfire were the first ones to use the vanilla beehives. James Potter chucked a handful of icing unto a Hogwarts teacher? This was really good blackmail material.
“Great plan Riu!” JK made a softball out of the vanilla beehives and pitched it to Riu.
“Out with the ketchup!”
“No banana!”
“Aaargh, not ice cream!”

Butterbeer jetted out of bottles and Chocolate Frogs were jumping out of their boxes.

“The icing’s irresistible.” Remus mashed a beehive on Gyn’s cheek. “Well, not only the icing. Was there something written on the cake?”
“I don’t think she was able to read it, though, was she?” Gyn hollered.
“Not all’s lost.” Riu sprayed them with whipped cream.
“How do you mean?”
“Wait ‘til it’s dark enough to see the lights.”
“What?”
“I said wait for - ” Sirius’s words were drowned by ketchup.
“Wait for what?”
“Wait for now!”
“For what!?”
“Merlin’s balls!”
“Good Lord!”
“How’d you do it?”
Sirius surprised the lot. “I got some help from Kreacher.”
“It’s…” And Lae was rendered speechless.
The spectacle was composed of sea green, sky blue and lavender lights, whistling then sighing as they glittered in the sky forming a screaming “Happy Half Birthday, Lae!”
The fireworks lasted for ten whole minutes. Not bad, considering that it was truly Sirius who asked Kreacher to do it.

“Didn’t need to worry about space and icing then.”
“But you don’t get to eat it.”
“You can eat other stuff.”

“Thank you. I can barely wait for my real birthday” She also received gifts like half of a Quaffle, half of a football and, the most intriguing, half of a locket given anonymously.
“Curious.” JK smiled as Lae’s half of the pendant glimmered in the moonlight. “We plan to kidnap Lily next year, by the way.”
“I’ll owl her and ask about identification charms.” Gyn watched the pendant twirl in the summer breeze. They were sitting under the Elder tree. “I swear I have no idea whom it’s from.” Lae had cocked an eyebrow at her friends. Sirius came into her periphery, remnants of the icing and ice cream clung to his hair, jumper and jeans. She was by his side like a shot.

“Thanks again, Sirius.”
“Thanks? This is just a clever ploy to get you to put your guard down.” He was grinning at her though.
Lae laughed to that. “Not clever enough.” And stuffed a vanilla beehive down his jumper.

One summer night,
We ran away for a while

Summer before the seventh year, I invited Lae to visit so I could introduce her to my parents. I fetched her from The Breeze. I met her father there. He was still well that time. We drove to The Midnight. And my mother loved her. Father was worried. He never said anything.

Laughing, we hurried beneath the sky
To an obscure place top hide

Remus came to visit Gin that summer as well. So, naturally, Lae and I had our share of hiding. I never quite thought I'd find The Midnight too small for Gin and I. But it was… for everywhere Lae and I went, Remus and Gin were always there. Doing the things Lae and I went to those places for.

So, alas, we found the perfect place. On the bridge. At the very heart of it. I found out how well I can make alterations to a lot of spells and charms Hogwarts taught us. Lucky, I am smart and Lae listens to Flitwick.

That no one could find

We never bumped into Remus and Gin after we found our spot. Yes, nobody saw us. Not even the house elves.

And we drifted to another state of mind
And imagined I was yours and you were mine

I would never forget that place. Our feet dangled over the lake as we chatted and let time fly by. I never imagined that an unphysical relationship can surpass whatever orgasmic means. We barely fooled around on those nights at the bridge. We sat there and really learned more about each other.

Maybe it was the lake. Or perhaps the stars that hovered over us. I don't really know. Perhaps it was her magic… that drifted me to her. It didn't quite feel like I was at The Midnight. Perhaps she did bring me to another place. Or maybe it was a dream that I imagined that she brought me to The Breeze… sitting on the cliff over the sea.

That was where I first saw her. I mean really see her. Gin made me accompany her to take a painting from Lae's father. We flew to that cliff and Lae was standing there… in her Irish dress with her curls dancing with the gentle sea breeze. It was the summer before the fifth year.

As we lay upon the grass there in the dark
Underneath the stars

Summer of '78… that season was indeed memorable. Father let me be… he laid off. And he let me and Lae be in love.

Young love
Underneath the stars

Only nature witnessed how our love was conceived, how love was born, and how love had grown…

Weak in the knees…
Wrapped in the warm gentle breeze

And then school started. And I found out about her. That was when I faltered. I was frightened… scared… to be hurt… to be alone. But she cuddled me… and kept me together. She brought me misery but healed it off with love. Her love. Her undying love.

So shy…
A bundle of butterflies

I remember… on the night of my birthday. She prepared something for me. Since it wasn't a weekend, we could not go to Hogsmeade (and she wouldn't allow herself to use those secret passages on the map). She put together a scavenger hunt – Marauder's hunt if you must. She let the whole school in it. Even Dumbledore thought it was a great idea. Of course the Slytherins tried to mess it up. But even they didn't want to mess with Lae. (I think Snape or Malfoy had an idea she could kill them without using Avada – that's why they backed off.)

It ended in the locker room, where butterflies were fluttering everywhere and there was a picnic set up in the middle. It was exactly like out spot at the bridge. She recreated the summer for us. I still don't know how she did it. But she did. And that was my best birthday. The last birthday I celebrated before the war broke.

Flushed with a heat of desire
And a natural high
As we drifted to another place and time
And the feeling was so heady and sublime

And we made love. No… not just pointless sex to satisfy an urge. Love… we concretised love… like the way we did the first time she allowed me to take her…. allowed someone to take her.

That goes back to summer '78. In my room… candles everywhere… roses and wildflowers everywhere. She was perfect. Is perfect. She looked so beautiful. and I never thought I was worthy of her love. But she chose me. And she loved me. Loves me.

As I lost my heart to you there in the dark
Underneath the stars
Young love

No… not even this could erase her memory. She has my heart… young love is everlasting love for Sirius Black.

Beautiful and Bittersweetly
You were fading into me…

She grew in me. and I could not stop the time nor freeze the moments.

And I was fading into you.

Even if I knew I would lose her, I unconsciously but willingly allowed myself to further grow in love with her.

But the time went sailing by.

Knowing how so little time I had left… risking everything as I allowed it to happen… I did not stop. I continued to love her. Continue to love her.

Reluctantly we said goodbye…

She left… with a painful goodbye.

To that I could not say anything more.

And left our secret place so far behind

Three years later, and this is what I have become. Not only was I kidnapped from my Midnight. I was stolen from my world. And placed in this hell hole.

Only nature knows where she was taken. Nothing or no one else to rely on that one.

I brought death to Lily and James… I've betrayed Remus when I denied him of the truth. And to Harry… only God knows how my poor godson will grow up with those Muggles.

And I lay in bed all night…
And I was drifting…
Drifting…
Drifting…
Drifting…

This is what I must endure in this freezing cell… all my life… without no one.

I am drifting to nothingness… oblivion… death.

And I was yours

She owned me. Still does. My heart… soul… my entire being. She chose to love me when everyone just wanted a piece of me. She wanted all of me… even the screwed up me. She wanted every little bit of me. And I was hers. I am hers.

And you were my own…
My own baby

She was more than my girlfriend/lover. She was my life. Is my life. Not even these damned dementors can get to that depth of my soul. She stays untouchable in me.

As we lay…
As we…

But we were torn away from the world that taught us how to love. We were deprived of a happy life together. Our lives were stolen from us. And we are forced to live on different sides. I… only existing. Behind these cold walls. She… oh hell, I wish I knew at least where she drifted to…

Lay underneath the stars…

Same night sky… same moon… same stars. Still underneath the same stars. At least I hope we are.

Since this blog is just sitting here doing no one any good, I figured I'd re-vamp the whole updates board idea (the site's long been down anyway) and turn it into the For Fear and Hope of Love and Loss series story dump.

For the newcomers who have stumbled their way here, a short summary of what For Fear and Hope of Love and Loss is can be found on the right side of this page. You are all welcome to read the stories and provide constructive criticisms in the comments should you feel like it.

For Writersblock, I'm relying on Lae's Fanfiction.net account and the dead Faeryslair Yahoo! Groups for the old stories so I'm sorry if a story is missing. Feel free to email me or message me on Facebook if you've any story to contribute, recent or otherwise. Most of the new contributions will probably be from me as I still have to get permission from Lae to post her recent stories here.

It will most probably take a few days to post everything I already have here as I have yet to sort through them (however little there may be) so patience. I'll also indicate the author of the stories to prevent confusion in the different voices in the stories.

Standard disclaimer for all stories can be found on the right side of this site.

Anyways, I hope you'll all enjoy.

Sincerely,
Professor Keiadara Wildfire
